Simple design changes, BIG RESULTS

When thinking of home improvement, accent features, or just overall home designs.. Sometimes Bigger does not mean better. A can of paint, new paintings or pillows, or just adding some small trays or books to your counters can elevate a space without costing you very much.

Depending on the area of your home you are wanting to upgrade, there are several small things you normally don’t think to change, that will greatly impact the space.

Starting with the dining area or kitchen:

  • Add textured pottery as the centerpiece of your dining table

  • Using books, cutting boards, or something small to add value to your countertops

  • Change pendant lighting and hanging light fixtures

  • Switch out any hardware to incorporate different metals and finishes

  • Update window treatments you may have in these areas

Moving to the living room:

  • You can easily change the look and flow of your space by bringing in a different rug. Using furniture to either open the space, or divide to give more separate living is also an idea depending on what you want

  •  In an otherwise neutral space, new textures, patterns, and colors will breathe life into the room. Using pillows, throw blankets, and even storage bins can stand out depending on your current color pallet

Last stop is the easiest one to make changes to… the bedroom:

  • Pick up a new throw or furry pelt, drape it over your bed, and you've instantly added warmth, texture, and color.

  • Swapping out your bedding to make an impact in your room. You can place a neutral Moroccan blanket on top of your duvet and change the style while adding an extra layer of warmth.

  • Adding a bench or ottoman at the foot of the bed in a fun texture or color.

  • Changing your wall paint is the simplest trick in the book to completely transform a room. If painting all of your walls doesn't appeal to you, do a statement wall. Using textures like wood can also be a quick project, that will make a lasting statement

If you are ever unsure of what design swaps to make, or you don’t want to hurt a space when trying to add value, consult a professional. An interior designer can give you ideas and a better understanding of what works in your space. If you are looking to make changes before listing your home, ask your agent. They will be able to guide you through what's going to add value quickly without costing you too much.
